Greetings ToW-Patrol, WAIT! Hold up a sec before you just breeze right past me like I'm not even writing anything here so you can find out what arrived on the space freighter at ToW Intergalactic Headquarters this week. I have a late-but-GRRREAT addition to the June Advance Orders catalog to which I need to direct your attention: the Harbinger Vol 1 The Beginning HC! Written by legendary Marvel Comics EIC and Valiant co-founder Jim Shooter, with art by David (STRAY BULLETS) Lapham, this digitally recolored and remastered Valiant special edition HC collects the full Harbinger origin story from issues #0 - 7 for the first time ever, and includes an all-new "Origin of Harada" story written by Shooter with art by former Valiant creator Bob (SHADOWMAN) Hall! This classic story of Sting's band of renegade teenagers with extraordinary powers of the mind and their battle against Japanese tycoon Toyo Harada took the comics industry by storm in 1992. It features Eisner award-winner David Lapham's very first work as a talented teenager and one of legendary creator Jim Shooter's greatest stories ever! As someone who was on the retail "front lines" during Valiant's heyday in the mid-1990s, I'm excited to see what may be the return of the Valiant Universe to comic racks worldwide, because they were good comics and I sold a metric ton of 'em. And I like the idea of the return of Mr. Jim Shooter to the comics industry. Shooter has a long and storied history in comics, and something of a reputation as a controversial, even polarizing figure in the industry. Whether that's all fact or fiction is for the historians to say, but I CAN say with some measure of experience that things are usually much more interesting with Jim Shooter around. Here's to a successful re-launch, Valiant! Now where's my QUANTUM & WOODY Omnibus?
